On 3 October 1962, the Speedmaster CK 2998 became the first OMEGA watch to be worn in space, when astronaut Walter Schirra took his own model with him on the Mercury programme’s Sigma 7 mission. This updated version pays tribute to the pioneering timepiece and represents the modern interpretation of the 2nd generation Speedmaster.

The 39.70 mm case in polished and satin-finished stainless steel is mounted on a black leather strap with a stainless steel buckle. The black aluminium bezel features the legendary tachymeter scale displaying the famous dot above the number 90.

Under the brand new hesalite-shaped sapphire crystal, the blue-grey dial is CVD-coated to replicate the tone of some CK 2998 watches from the 1960s. Like the indexes and the “Alpha” hour and minute hands, coated with vintage Super-LumiNova, the central “baton” seconds hand is varnished in white and matches the transfer indications. The watch features a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock, a 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock, and a small seconds counter at 9 o’clock.

The dial is enhanced with a vintage OMEGA logo, as well as the crown, while the case back features the famous seahorse medallion and the engravings “THE FIRST OMEGA IN SPACE” and “OCTOBER 3, 1962”.

The watch is powered by the Co-Axial Master Chronometer caliber 3861, the most recent version of the caliber 321 that accompanied astronauts into space. Each watch is presented in an exclusive presentation box with a “LEGENDARY MOONWATCH” leaflet inside.
